The Mendocino National Forest is located in the Coastal Mountain Range in northwestern California and comprises 913,306 acres (3,696.02 km2). It is the only national forest in the state of California without a major paved road entering it.

Both these routes lead to a gate.
The gate closes December 1st. and opens May 1st.
This gate is 15 miles from the mountain.
The gate is located at 4000 feet at a place called Franklin Point on Valentine Ridge.
3. Corning - Paskenta Rd.(A9) - Paskenta - Toomes Camp Rd.(M2) - Colyer Springs Rd,
Ides Cove Trailhead (6855')
This route holds deep snow in the spring. Best route in early spring is to go through the Franklin Point gate
after it opens on May 1st.
