About Coastal Crest Snow Patrol
The Mendocino National Forest in Northern California contains nearly one million acres. From the Snow Mountain Wilderness in the southern end to the Yolla Bolly – Middle Eel Wilderness in the north, numerous peaks hold snow well into the summer. Getting turns on Snow Mountain, Hull Mountain, Black Butte, Anthony Peak, Leech Lake Mountain, South Yolla Bolly, North Yolla Bolly, Black Rock Mountain and Solomon Peak. I have been exploring the Mendocino National Forest for skiing opportunities since 1995.

The Mendocino National Forest is located in the Coastal Mountain Range in northwestern California and comprises 913,306 acres (3,696.02 km2). It is the only national forest in the state of California without a major paved road entering it.

The tallest peak in the Mendocino National Forest.

Ides Cove Trailhead (6855')
Both these routes lead to a gate.
The gate closes December 1st. and opens May 1st.
This gate is 15 miles from the mountain.
The gate is located at 4000 feet at a place called Franklin Point on Valentine Ridge.

Ides Cove Trailhead (6855')
This route holds deep snow in the spring. Best route in early spring is to go through the Franklin Point gate
after it opens on May 1st.
